73 percent confident that America will convert to Islam

Surprising Study Reveals Muslim Communities Long to Be Acknowledged As Part
of Mainstream America

NEW YORK, April 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Many American Muslims

feel simultaneously overexposed in the media and invisible as part of the
American mainstream. But while they generally perceive themselves to be
under constant suspicion, a new study shows that Muslims still believe in

the American dream and are quietly living out traditional American values.

"One of the most crucial things to emerge from the study is that
American Muslims want to feel less singled out and to be simply

acknowledged and accepted," says Marian Salzman, executive vice president
and chief marketing officer of JWT Worldwide. "They're hyphenated Americans
in a country where religious observance is normal."

JWT, the largest advertising agency in the U.S. and the fourth-largest
in the world, commissioned this wide-ranging study on America's estimated 6
to 8 million Muslims; it includes in-depth interviews with noted American

Muslims, ethnographies of ordinary Muslims and a survey of 350 Muslims that
used face-to-face interviews. An adapted version of the survey was also
fielded online to more than 450 Americans representing the general

population.

"We quickly found out that Muslims have become wary of discussing
themselves and their faith," notes Salzman. "Many have felt a lot of
hostility directed at them and didn't want to risk expressing opinions on

anything vaguely controversial. It took a lot of effort to convince enough
Muslims that our study was purely market research, not for political
purposes."

Participants balked most notably at questions related to 9/11 and its

effects, adds Ann Mack, JWT's director of trendspotting. "America's
post-9/11 focus on Muslims has forced them to grapple with some tough
questions that few other Americans have had to face: How public should they

be about their faith? Should they stand up for it or avoid confrontation?
Are there conflicts of loyalty between their faith and their country?"
Among the key quantitative findings:

* Over two-thirds (69 percent) of American Muslims say they are often

judged by events outside their control, a view of Muslims shared by 60
percent of the general sample. At a time when Arabic names or Muslim
attire routinely attract unwelcome attention, more than half of Muslims

(53 percent) fear that their right to express their religion is under
attack, and 39 percent of the general population agrees with them.

* Much of Muslim angst is driven by widespread perceptions of anti-Muslim

bias in the media. Well over half of Muslims (57 percent) feel that
media coverage is always/mostly biased, and another third (34 percent)
feel it is occasionally biased. The general public senses an anti-Muslim

slant as well, with 25 percent agreeing that coverage is always/mostly
biased and 48 percent saying it's occasionally biased. More than
three-quarters (78 percent) of Muslims say they are increasingly angry

about the way the media characterizes and portrays Muslims.

* When it comes to the stuff of everyday life, however, Muslims are like
other Americans. Both Muslims and the general population place a high

priority on feeling safe outside their home (89 percent of both
samples), personal freedom (89 percent of Muslims vs. 93 percent of the
general sample), education (90 percent vs. 88 percent) and, to a lesser

extent for both, career (75 percent vs. 69 percent).

* On the topic of advertising, Muslims generally reflect mainstream
American views, with a slant toward the conservative. A little over 70

percent of both samples agreed advertisers should accept greater
responsibility for setting a moral standard. Sixty-nine percent of
Muslims vs. 59 percent of the general sample feel that most advertising

sets a low moral tone for younger and more easily impressed viewers; 60
percent of Muslims vs. 47 percent of the general sample agree that the
advertising they see is too suggestive or immodest.

* Muslims' biggest gripe with advertising is that it doesn't acknowledge
their existence: A high 71 percent of Muslims (vs. 34 percent of the
general sample) agreed that "Advertisers rarely show anybody of my

faith/ethnicity in their advertising," and 72 percent said that if they
felt advertisers generally wanted or appreciated the business of
Muslims, they would pay more attention to ads.

* While most Muslims (61 percent) feel that it's hard to be a Muslim in America, many are optimistic; indeed, 73 percent said they are confident
that Western society would one day accept Islam.

Muslims are not necessarily looking for marketers to provide any
specially targeted products, although Islam does require specific food and

packaged goods (halal), clothing (modest) and financial transactions
(shariah- compliant). What they are primarily looking for is acknowledgment
from marketers, says Mack. "The challenge and the opportunity for brands

are to connect with Muslims in a low-key way that recognizes their
American-ness and seeks to understand their particular attitudes."

"Every step of this study has been hugely instructive for us and for

our clients," says Salzman. "We started out with the intention of learning
about the 'Muslim community.' We quickly found out that there is no such
thing as a single American Muslim community, much as there is no single

Christian community. Muslims vary hugely by ethnicity, faith, tradition,
education, income and degree of religious observance, to name a few
factors."

JWT will make the study available to key clients and will also sell the

findings on its proprietary "smarts" Web site (http://www.jwtintelligence.com)
starting May 1. A comparable study of the Muslim market in the U.K
. will be
launched on May 21. The study was done in collaboration with Market Probe,
NoFormula and Attention Space.

In two previous books, Osama's Revenge and The Al Qaeda Connection, seasoned investigative reporter Paul Williams revealed the alarming potential for nuclear terrorism on U.S. soil and the sinister connections among organized crime, illegal immigrants, and al Qaeda.

Now, Williams broadens his focus beyond al Qaeda to provide readers with newly uncovered information on terrorist activities in Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, other Muslim countries—and our neighbor Canada! What emerges is a harrowing picture of international terrorist activities, all aimed at the destruction of the United States and the collapse of the Western world.

This cataclysm will usher in The Day of Islam, the dream of radical Muslims to see all of humankind fall in submission before the throne of Allah. Based on the "forgotten testimony" of the FBI's "Confidential Source One," as well as other sources, Williams first presents evidence of Osama Bin Laden's purchase of highly enriched uranium in Sudan and nuclear devices from the Chechens and the Russian Mafia. He then offers further information on the workings of Pakistani scientists and technicians from the A. Q. Khan Research Facility to maintain and upgrade al Qaeda's "bespoke nukes" (with explosive yields in excess of ten kilotons) for the "American Hiroshima."

This information comes with empirical proof that should dispel any doubts that these weapons not only have been developed but have also been forward-deployed from the seaport at Karachi to strategic locations within the Western world. Keeping the focus on Pakistan, he predicts a nightmarish scenario if President Pervez Musharref should be overthrown and his arsenal of sixty-eight nuclear weapons falls into the hands of radical mullahs.

Williams also examines the role of the Iranians both in sponsoring terrorism and in planning the American Hiroshima. In addition, he uncovers many unreported and startling accounts of the terrorist activities of Hezbollah in America and presents evidence that the marriage between Hezbollah and al Qaeda has been consummated.

Finally, he presents intelligence showing that grave threats to America come, not from just our southern border, but from Canada and its amazingly open policies regarding radical Islam. The greatest threat of all, he concludes, comes from within—not only from the radical mosques within every major American city but also the Islamic paramilitary compounds in rural areas throughout the country, including Islamberg in New York State, where new recruits are trained for the great jihad against the United States under the very nose of FBI and Homeland Security officials.

Sure to be controversial, this shocking exposé sends a wake-up to Americans lulled into a false sense of security in the post-9/11 era. Paul L. Williams, Ph.D., is a journalist and the author of Osama's Revenge: The Next 9/11 and The Al Qaeda Connection, among other books. The winner of three first-place Keystone Press Awards for journalism, he has also served as a consultant for the FBI, editor and

An Open letter to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to DENY McMaster University Renewal License for its nuclear reactor

MAGIC CITY MORNING STAR

To: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
By Michael Devolin
Apr 22, 2007 - 1:56:35 PM

I’m writing this letter as an ordinary Canadian citizen, to officially voice my objections to McMaster University’s application for a seven-year renewal of its operating license for its nuclear program.

I strongly object to McMaster University being granted license for a seven year extension of its nuclear research program precisely because of the fact that many of its staff are not only Muslims, but also, and more importantly, because these same Muslims originate from countries where the generally desired efficacy of Islam as a religion is hatred and acts of violence, not only against Muslims of opposing sects and doctrines, but also against all non-Muslims, and especially Jews. These Muslims I’m referring to - Muslims involved in McMaster Univerity’s nuclear research program-were surely inculcated by what is known most commonly by now as Islam’s culture of violence and hatred during their years living in those countries where this same malefic violence and hatred [of the West] is regarded as unremarkable.

I am most anxious about the fact that these particular Muslims now have access to Canada’s "nuclear capabilities." Has the staffs (those who are of the Muslim faith) of McMaster University with access to the Nuclear facilities been fully investigated as to what sect of Islam is their personal choice? Please consider that those of the Wahhabists sects of Islam (and there are many) are not at all forthcoming about this fact. Fanaticism within Islam is widespread, and this same fanaticism does not remain in the Muslim Middle East immediately those who follow its tenets immigrate to our Canada.

CISIS has been warning for quite some time that Islam’s fanaticism is now a reality for Canada. Luc Portelance of CSIS has stated, "Terrorism is dangerous ideology, and a global phenomenon...Canada is not immune from this ideology." What is missing in his statement is the fact that, without exception, the terrorism Mr. Portelance refers to is an Islamic phenomenon. We are told that "Islamist" is now the preferred, politically correct term for the adherents of Islam who choose to murder innocents as means of palliating their religiously-inspired and discomposing contempt for the less observant and less-enlightened of mankind, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. But the truth of the matter-a most portentous truth, in my opinion-is that these so-called "Islamists" are inconspicuously invariably of those whom we refer to in the politically-correct, phrasal idiom as "moderate" Muslims, and only later (and this is the security imbroglio we are now facing as a nation) do they become the terrorists and insidious elements we read about daily in the newspapers.

Raheel Raza (Their Jihad, Not My Jihad) has written of Islam’s many extreme and varied ideologies that, "It had been happening here in Canada to the extent that hate was being spouted through places of worship and by people who make it their day job to incite young people in this hatred. Towards what they perceive to be the imperial powers, the western occupation of parts of the world." My questions to these Muslims involved in McMaster University’s nuclear research program would be in regards to how they deem this democracy they live in, the values it espouses, and how compatible is their preferred sect of Islam to this same democracy. Are these same Muslims perhaps of those who "make it their day job to incite young people in this hatred"? What other Islamic organizations are they involved with? What are their preferred politics? Do they condone and/or advocate Islam’s barbaric Sharia Law, as opposed to our Western style justice system? Sharia Law is not a justice system I would ever welcome into this country. Neither would I welcome those of Islam who condone its implementation into our present justice system. Much of the Middle East and Africa is suffering from the insalubrious effects of this atrocious "rule of law."

As part of my objection to McMaster University being granted another seven years to continue its nuclear research program, I ask that his commission give much thought to the words of the journalist Steven Stalinsky, who wrote, "As the war on terror continues, the voices from the Arab and Muslim world celebrating death over life have been heard more often than those criticizing this philosophy." I would ask you to consider how active have these Muslim scientists been or with what manners of voice have they protested against the bloodshed and carnage perpetrated upon innocent Muslim, Jews, and Christians around the world? If not actively and loudly contumacious toward those of Islam’s more disagreeable and dark side, then in what measure does their religion figure in their involvement in McMaster University’s nuclear research program? Is there even the slightest possibility of the knowledge they garner from McMaster Univerity’s nuclear research program one day becoming complicit in catastrophic acts of terrorism not only against Canada and innocent Canadians, but also against our Western allies and their civilian populations?

The above are prudent questions indeed. I believe these are not the questions, however uncomfortable and politically incorrect, the governing body of McMaster University are asking those Muslims involved in their nuclear research program. I also believe that now is far too late to begin asking these questions: the advantage and safety of prudence has already been forfeited by the incautiousness of those of McMaster University who cannot see beyond their zeal for discovery the grave and threatening possibility of a cataclysmic terrorist attack as a direct consequence of their foolish obduracy.

I beg this commission to consider that there is nothing for you to lose in refusing McMaster University another seven years to wilfully endanger the entire continent of North America, and maybe beyond. And there is only prestige for you to gain in preventing acts of terrorism upon Canadian soil against Canadian citizens who deserve to feel safe within the borders of this great and noble country we call home.

"Why do expressions of tolerance, moderation, rationalism, compromise, and negotiation horrify us [Muslims], but when we hear fervent cries for vengeance, we all dance the war dance... Why do other people love life, while we love death and violence, slaughter and suicide, and even call it heroism and martyrdom? -- Al-Afif Al-Akhdar, Tunisian intellectual

With sincerity and respect and an intense love for my country.

What is the Dhimmie plan for Iraq ? The Idea Bulb is Dark

Everything’s difficult, isn’t it? In the Democratic presidential candidates’ debate, Sen. Barack Obama was asked what he personally was doing to save the environment, and replied that his family was “working on” changing their light bulbs.

Is this the new version of the old joke? How many senators does it take to “work on” changing a light bulb? One to propose a bipartisan commission. One to threaten to de-fund the light bulbs. One to demand the impeachment of Bush and Cheney for keeping us all in the dark. One to vote to pull out the first of the light bulbs by fall of this year with a view to getting them all pulled out by the end of 2008.

(snip)

This week, both the House and the Senate voted for defeat in Iraq. That’s to say, Congress got tired of waiting for deadbeat insurgents to get their act together and inflict devastating military humiliation on U.S. forces. So America’s legislators have voted to mandate the certainty of defeat. They want the withdrawal of American forces to begin this October, which is a faintly surreal concept: Watching CNN International around the world, many viewers unversed in America’s constitutional arrangements will have been puzzled by the spectacle of a nation giving six months’ notice of surrender. But the cannier types in the presidential palaces will have drawn their own conclusions.

For example, as Congress was voting

The Lies of Harry Reid bring smiles to the faces of our enemy

The political battle in Washington over a Democratic plan to pull U.S. troops from Iraq is being exploited by al Qaeda, which has stepped up attacks to hasten a withdrawal, Iraq’s foreign minister said on Sunday.

Hoshiyar Zebari said Iraq had become “entangled” in domestic politics in the United States, where there is growing impatience for progress in reconciling the country’s warring sects.

U.S. President George W. Bush has vowed to veto a war spending bill that requires combat troops to begin withdrawing by Oct. 1. Congress, which is controlled by the Democrats, plans to send the bill to Bush on Tuesday.

“This plays out very badly here,” Zebari said in an interview with Reuters, making the first substantive government comment on the political tussle.

“It shows the administration is not united. And everybody watches this development, al Qaeda, the anti-democratic forces who are fighting us.”

He pointed to an increase in car bomb attacks blamed on al Qaeda that have caused the civilian death toll to stay high despite a major 10-week-old operation by U.S. and Iraqi troops in Baghdad, the epicentre of the violence.

“This recent escalation you have seen was expected, just to show the Baghdad security plan is not working.

A little smiling moment of eternal destruction of another group of P*wn'd Taliban

Mullah Najibullah, You've Been....Thunderstruck

tothetalibanwithlove.jpgOur Boy kicking ass from the air in Afghanistan. The Taliban can sneak in, but it's a bit tougher to sneak out after their lame ambushes.

Via The Telegraph: Caught in the middle of the Helmand river, the fleeing Taliban were paddling their boat back to shore for dear life.

Smoke from the ambush they had just sprung on American special forces still hung in the air, but their attention was fixed on the two helicopter gunships that had appeared above them as their leader, the tallest man in the group, struggled to pull what appeared to be a burqa over his head...

...By the time the gunships had finished, 21 minutes later, military officials say 14 Taliban were confirmed dead, including one of their key commanders in Helmand...

"Some of them were trying to get the heavy machine-gun up a small hill to engage us," Lt Denton said. "Capt Staley used the 30mm gun to take out the two guys who had taken off, and then we fixed on the ones with the heavy machine-gun. They were huddled around a large boulder and we shot them. We put as many rounds around it as we could, because if they got to it they could cause us trouble. But they never had a chance to set it up."

Using its cannon and then its rockets, the Apache finished off all the Taliban fighters it could find, then launched nail-filled rockets and dropped white phosphorous to destroy the motorcycles and the machine guns. After the shooting stopped, 12 Taliban were confirmed dead...

.....for now, the American airmen are not losing any sleep over it. "When you are on top of the enemy you look, shoot and it's, 'You die, you die, you die..."

Another UK Muzzie Jailed for plot to shooot down airplanes with SAM's

Another British Muslim Secretly Jailed for Airline Plot

Following the conviction of five Muslims on conspiracy and terrorism charges, the UK government has also announced that a Muslim who tried to buy SAMs to shoot down airplanes was recently sentenced to nine years in prison.

Secretly.

A Briton who allegedly tried to buy missiles to shoot down airliners has been jailed, it has emerged following the Old Bailey fertiliser bomb trial.

Reporting restrictions covering the conviction of Kazi Nurur Rahman have been lifted.

Rahman, 29, was arrested in November 2005 after trying to buy three Uzi sub-machine guns in a police sting. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for nine years but details were kept secret because of his links to the defendants.

Rahman was arrested only four months after the 7 July attacks in London and when sentencing him in May last year (2006) the judge, Mr Justice David Calvert-Smith, said: “These negotiations were conducted in the immediate aftermath of the worst terrorist outrage ever perpetrated on these shores.

”What was intended was the deaths of large numbers of people in this country.“

When Rahman’s home in Manor Park, east London was searched police found literature relating to the 9/11 ”martyrs" and details of guerrilla warfare and how to execute prisoners.

Britons get life for plotting al Qaeda bomb attacks

Reuters - 27 minutes ago

LONDON (Reuters) - A judge jailed five "cruel and ruthless" Britons for life on Monday for plotting al Qaeda-inspired bomb attacks on targets across Britain ranging from nightclubs to trains and a shopping center.

The trial revealed that police tracking the gang had established links between them and British Islamists who killed 52 people in suicide bombings in London on July 7, 2005.

"The sentences are for life. Release is not a foregone conclusion. Some or all of you may never be released," judge Michael Astill said at London's Old Bailey court.

"You have received and taken advantage of the benefits that this society offered you, yet you sought to destroy it," he said after one of the longest jury deliberations in British history.

The gang planned to use 600 kg (1,300 lb) of ammonium nitrate fertilizer to make bombs in revenge for Britain's support for the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks, prosecutors said.

Britain's opposition parties and survivors of the July 7 bombings demanded a public inquiry into the deadly attacks, but Britain's Home Secretary (Interior Minister) John Reid dismissed the call, saying it was not the right time.

""I do not believe a public inquiry is the correct response at this time because it would divert the energies and efforts of so many in the security services and the police," he said.

Spies had seen Mohammed Sidique Khan, the suspected ringleader of the July 7 bombings, and accomplice Shehzad Tanweer with the men in the days leading up to their arrest, but discounted them because they were not involved in the plot.

"We were deceived," said Jacqui Putnam, who was on board an underground train blown up on July 7.

"We were told that these four characters were not affiliated with al Qaeda and were working entirely independently. We were told that, when it was known that they weren't -- because they had been under surveillance."

The government praised the police for their work.

"Five dangerous terrorists are now behind bars thanks to the hard work of our police and security services," Reid said.

"It's not the first time they have averted a very serious threat to life in this country. This is an endless task."

AL QAEDA "BEHIND" PLOT

Counter-terrorism experts said the gang could have produced a "formidable weapon" more powerful than some of the devices used in devastating attacks around the world in recent years.

"There is no doubt at all the carnage would have been immense," London's anti-terrorism chief Peter Clarke told Reuters. "I have no doubt at all they are clearly linked straight into the heart of al Qaeda."

Prosecutors said the men only needed to decide on a target when they were arrested in 2004 before carrying out what would have been the first homegrown attack by Islamic militants.

After the longest terrorism trial in British history, the men -- Omar Khyam, Anthony Garcia, Jawad Akbar, Waheed Mahmood and Salahuddin Amin -- were found guilty of plotting to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.

"You are considered cruel, ruthless misfits by society," said the judge as he passed sentence.

Two other suspects were cleared of all charges.

The conspiracy, dubbed the "British Bomb Plot" by U.S. officials, was said by prosecutors to be truly international.

Training was carried out at camps in Pakistan; technical help with detonators was provided by Canadian Momin Khawaja.

The chief prosecution witness was U.S. militant turned informant Mohammed Babar, a self-confessed al Qaeda supporter who set up the camps but testified against his co-conspirators.

Babar agreed to give evidence as part of a plea bargain negotiated in 2004 after he admitted a number of terrorism offences in New York.

More than 1 million protest against Islam in Turkey - Hello MSM!!

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Huge Crowd Protests Against Islam in Turkey

Here’s some good news to start off a Sunday morning, as more than a million people took to the streets of Istanbul to protest against Islamic rule of Turkey.

ISTANBUL, Turkey - At least 300,000 Turks waving the red national flag flooded central Istanbul on Sunday to demand the resignation of the government, saying the Islamic roots of Turkey’s leaders threatened to destroy the country’s modern foundations.

Like the protesters — who gathered for the second large anti-government demonstration in two weeks — Turkey’s powerful secular military has accused Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of tolerating radical Islamic circles.

They want to drag Turkey to the dark ages,” said 63-year-old Ahmet Yurdakul, a retired government employee who attended the protest.

Exactly right. The protesters are saying the same things we’ve been saying at LGF for years (and getting slammed by the left for it).

The military said Friday night that it was gravely concerned and indicated it was willing to become more openly involved in the process — a statement some interpreted as an ultimatum to the government to rein in officials who promote Islamic initiatives.

Sunday’s crowd chanted that the presidential palace was “closed to imams.” Some said Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc was an enemy of the secular system, because he said the next president should be “pious.”

In the 1920s, with the Ottoman Empire in ruins, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk imposed Western laws, replaced Arabic script with the Latin alphabet, banned Islamic dress and granted women the right to vote.

The ruling party, however, has supported religious schools and tried to lift the ban on Islamic head scarves in public offices and schools. Secularists are also uncomfortable with the idea of Gul’s wife, Hayrunisa, being in the presidential palace because she wears the traditional Muslim head scarf.

“We don’t want a covered woman in Ataturk’s presidential palace,” said Ayse Bari, a 67-year-old housewife. “We want civilized, modern people there.”

A protester holds a placard showing a bulb, the symbol of the ruling AK Party, wrapped with a black chador during a rally to oppose the AK Party’s presidential candidate in Istanbul April 29, 2007. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul refused on Sunday to withdraw from Turkey’s presidential vote, ignoring pressure from the army and calls from tens of thousands of demonstrators worried about his Islamist past. Placard reads “We are aware of danger”. REUTERS/Osman Orsal (TURKEY)

UPDATE at 4/29/07 8:41:45 am:

The article above seriously understates the attendance at this rally; there were more than a million people.

ISTANBUL (AFP) - More than one million people took part in a mass rally here Sunday in support of secularism and democracy amid a tense stand-off between the Islamist-rooted government and the army over presidential elections.

The crowd, carrying red-and-white Turkish flags and portraits of founding father Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, filled Istanbul’s sprawling Caglayan square in a demonstration organized by some 600 non-governmental organizations.

“Turkey is secular and will remain secular,” “Neither Sharia, nor coup d’etat, democratic Turkey,” they chanted.

Luciano Melendres
If Luciano Melendres had been deported to Mexico following his 2006 arrest for driving drunk – or even if a judge last week hadn't suspended his six-month jail sentence and given him 12 months probation – Dacus Lamont Sims, 32, would be alive today.

As it is, Melendres is back in jail for a second offense, this time charged with DWI, felony hit-and-run, driving with a license revoked, not having insurance and a registration violation, the Charlotte, North Carolina, Observer reported.

Sims, who was hit while crossing a Charlotte street earlier this week, died at the scene.

Melendres continued to a friend's home and was found because a driver who saw the accident followed his car and contacted police. The illegal alien, who has lived and worked in North Carolina for at least 13 months, denied involvement when questioned by officers.

"Why do they let this man constantly drive?" asked Joset Sims, the victim's sister. "If this gentleman is an illegal immigrant, and he was charged with DWI, why did they not deport him?"

When Melendres was arrested for the first offense in March 2006, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office had not yet instituted detainee screening to determine whether prisoners were in the U.S. illegally, resulting in his release. It is unclear whether the court was aware of his status as an illegal alien when it suspended his jail sentence last week and released him on probation.

The sheriff's new screening program identified more than 900 illegal immigrants passing through the jail between April and November last year. DWIs – the most common count – accounted for 190 of the arrests. Traffic violations, in second place, totaled 176 counts.

WND has reported on the growing list of illegal immigrants who have not only ignored U.S. immigration laws, but state laws against drinking and driving as well, killing innocents on the highways in the process, including:

Alfredo Ramos

Alfredo Ramos: A Mexican national in the U.S. illegally, Ramos was convicted of driving while intoxicated last year, but that didn't keep him from being behind the wheel after a night of drinking last weekend – and now two teenage girls are dead because of it. According to police, Ramos, 22, slammed the 1998 Mitsubishi he was driving into the rear of a 1994 Plymouth driven by Allison Kunhardt, 17, Friday night in Virginia Beach, Va. Kunhardt and her best friend Tessa Tranchant, 16, were stopped at a traffic light when they were hit from behind. Although both wore seat belts, both died – one at the scene and one after arriving at the hospital. Ramos, charged with manslaughter for the two deaths, was convicted last year of public drunkenness in Virginia Beach and driving under the influence in Chesapeake.

Carlos Prieto

Carlos Prieto: Suspected illegal alien from Mexico was held in the Salt Lake County jail after running a red light and broadsiding a family of six, killing three, on Christmas Eve 2006. The charging documents say his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. The Ceran family, active in local theater and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were returning home after attending a performance of Dicken's "The Christmas Carol," which featured several family members, when their car was struck by a truck driven by Carlos Prieto. The crash killed Cheryl Ceran, 47, and two of her children, 15-year-old Ian and 7-year-old Julinna. Cheryl Ceran's husband, Gary Ceran, 45, and their 19-year-old daughter, Clarissa, and 12-year-old son, Caleb, were injured.

Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews

Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano: When this illegal alien, working as a landscaper in Maryland, killed Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, and his date, Jennifer Bower, 24, on Thanksgiving night, 2006, it wasn't his first accident where alcohol was apparently involved. Nine months before, he was issued four citations and sent home with a friend after a single-car accident when he refused a Breathalyzer test. A policeman's error resulted in Morales-Soriano – who took advantage of North Carolina's easy rules to obtain his driver's license in 2004 – getting his license returned. On the night he killed the young couple, police say his blood alcohol level was measured at .32 – four times the legal level in Maryland for intoxication. Mathews had served 8 months in Iraq and completed another tour of duty in the Pacific.

Chief of Police Ernest V. Mendoza

Guillermo Paniagua: This 29-year-old Mexican construction worker, living in the U.S. illegally, already had 4 DUI arrests when he slammed his pickup, head-on, into the car driven by Needville, Texas, Independent School District Chief of Police Ernie Mendoza on Jan. 19, 2007. Mendoza died instantly and Paniagua, suffering only cuts and bruises, fled the accident scene into the night. The police officer left behind a wife and four children. Paniagua now he faces first-degree felony murder charges, and failure to stop and render aid.

Gustavo Reyes Garcia

Gustavo Reyes Garcia: Fourteen previous arrests – including four DUIs – didn't keep illegal alien Gustavo Reyes Garcia off the road June 8, 2006, when he slammed his SUV into a sedan driven by Sean and Donna Wilson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., killing them both. Garcia short-circuited the criminal trial for two counts of vehicular homicide while intoxicated and evading arrest by pleading guilty on April 9, 2007. "It was the case that brought to our attention ... the flaw in the system," Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall said.

Bob Clark (courtesy Warner Home Video)

Hector Velazquez-Nava: This 24-year-old Mexican national living in Los Angeles reportedly had a 0.24 percent blood-alcohol level – three times the state level to be considered drunk – about the time he drove his SUV head on into a car driven by 'A Christmas Story' director Bob Clark, killing him and his 22-year-old son at the scene. Velazquez-Nava was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter for the April 4, 2007, accident. According to reports, Velazquez-Nava didn't have any previous deportations but had been convicted in 2004 in Los Angeles of soliciting a prostitute, for which he received 24 months probation and a $1,500 fine after pleading no contest.

Isidro Pena Soto: Passing on one of Northern California's most deadly highways, Soto slammed head on into the pickup truck driven by Kent Boone, a 32-year-old pipe fitter on his way to work and father of five. Pena, who had been arrested or convicted at least nine times since 2003, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Deputy Loren Lilly

Joel Perea and Maurilio Herrera: Police took this death hard – it was one of their own. Deputy Loren Lilly, who had been with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for 18 years, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda Accord flipped several times after being struck by a Ford Taurus driven by Perea. "Obviously, being in law enforcement, none of us wants to roll up and see one of our fellow officers or deputies on the scene as well," said one cop. 27-year-old Perea and his passenger, Herrera, 23 fled the scene before being captured.

Jorge Humberto Hernandez-Soto

Jorge Humberto Hernandez-Soto: Police say was driving more than 100 mph on the wrong side of Interstate 485 when he collided head-on with the car of 18-year-old Min Soon Chang, a freshman from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, killing him. According to authorities, the illegal alien had already been sent back to Mexico 17 times and convicted of impaired driving at least a couple of times before the November 2005 crash.

Jose Trejo Encino

Jose Trejo Encino: The 27-year-old illegal alien from Mexico admitted to deputies, at the scene of the November 2006 single car accident that killed one of his passengers and injured another, "to drinking a 12-pack of beer earlier in the night," but not before first trying to throw the cans of beer he still had in his car into the woods before police arrived.

Luis Oscar Garcia: Police said Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and that his pants were soaked with a liquid that indicated the presence of alcohol when he ran a red light and killed 18-year-old James F. Rogers Jr. of North Jackson, Tenn., in August 2006. The 24-year-old Mexican had been living in the U.S. without a green card for three years.

Marcos Ramos Medina. Courtesy Yakima Herald Republic

Marcos Ramos Medina: The 35-year-old Mexican had twice been deported when, on Aug. 4, 2005, his car swerved several times across the center line, causing a tractor-trailer rig to jackknife in Yakima, Wash. His car then plowed head-on into the 2000 Lexus driven by Peggy Keller, 53, dean of distance education at Yakima Valley Community College, killing her at the scene. Medina, who was found to have at least eight aliases and falsely identified himself at his first court appearance, escaped serious injury. The case against the Mexican national was declared a mistrial in August 2006 because his constitutional right to remain silent had been violated. It took a second jury only 30 minutes to find Medina guilty three months later.

Miguel Garduno Gonzalez: The 43-year-old was accused of causing an accident near Lakeland, Fla., on Aug. 2, 2006, that left Haines City police officer Phoenix Braithwaite, 24, dead. Gonzalez was driving a van that while passing two trucks on U.S. 17-92 in Osceola County near the Polk County line hit the officer, who was on his way to work. Braithwaite, who was riding his motorcycle, was hit head-on and died at the scene. Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant, was not hurt and fled the scene. Two passengers in the van also were not hurt also are illegal immigrants. Gonzalez was being held without bail and the two others were held as material witnesses.

Pastor Rios Sanchez

Pastor Rios Sanchez: Despite having pleaded guilty to driving without a license in 2005, and similar counts in March and April of 2006, Sanchez was still on the road on Oct. 27, 2006, when he crossed the yellow line near Sanford, N.C., and collided head-on with a stationwagon carrying Helen Meghan Hughes, 22, of Summerville, S.C., Jennifer Carter, 18, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Hughes' stepbrother, 16-year-old Ben Leonard. All three were killed. The 55-year-old illegal alien was allegedly drunk and carrying a forged residency card.

Ramiro Gallegos

Ramiro Gallegos: In July 2005, Gallegos had already been charged on three separate occasions with drunk driving. His fourth offence caused the death of Scott Gardiner of Mount Holly, N.C., a father of two young children, when the Mexican citizen's truck struck Gardner's station wagon as he drove his family to the coast for vacation.

Vitalina Bautista Vargas bids farewell to husband in court (courtesy Chattanoogan)

Vitalina Bautista Vargas: Neighbors of Louella Winton said the van driven by Vargas, an illegal alien from Mexico, never slowed down before plowing through Winton's home, knocking the 91-year-old woman, who had been asleep in bed, against the wall of the house next door and leaving her under the vehicle outside the house. Winton died of complications from her injuries.

As WND has reported, the mayhem on America's highways isn't limited to illegals who drive only while intoxicated.

Little caution, critics say, is being exercised when it comes to preventing mayhem on America's highways as the country witnesses record high numbers of unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured drivers – millions of whom are illegal aliens.

While no one – in or out of government – tracks traffic accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year's 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.

A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.

Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.

UK Jihadies protest arrest of 6 Muslim leaders hell bent for British Jihad

Islamists Demonstrate Against Al Muhajiroun Arrests

The associates of the 6 arrested Al Muhajiroun members demonstrated today outside the Paddington Green Police Station, chanting “Hands off Muslims!” and “UK — You will pay!

About 100 Muslim men and women, some with scarves obscuring their faces, others waving placards and flags, walked from Regent’s Park Mosque to Paddington Green Police Station, where they believe outspoken Islamic militant Abu Izzadeen is being held with five others arrested Tuesday. ...

The protest began shortly after midday prayers at Regent’s Park Mosque, where Anjem Choudary, the former leader of the outlawed militant group al-Ghurabaa, addressed the crowd, demanding that they join him in protesting the detention of Izzadeen — a former spokesman for his group.

“You are living under oppression, the government is terrorizing the Muslim community,” he told worshippers. “It’s about time you stand together.”

The crowd, escorted by police, made its way to Paddington Green, waving placards and shouting slogans. Abu Saliyah, one of the speakers, said the British government was at war with Islam.

“They bomb us, and occupy our land, and here they arrest at you early in the morning!” he said, to cries of “UK — You will pay!” and shouts of “Allahu Akbar! (God is Great)”

But he predicted the ultimate victory of Muslims over their enemies. “One day, my dear Muslims, the flag of Islam will fly over Downing Street!” he said, to renewed shouts of “Allah Akbar!”

Democrat Defeatism and the meaning of the word retreat

Iraq: The Democrat-led Congress will hand President Bush a bill that requires troop withdrawals to begin this fall. Bush has said he’ll veto it. Good. Now it’s time for the rest of the GOP to denounce this charade.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said Bush is in a “state of denial” over the surge in Iraq. In fact, it’s the Democrats who are in denial.

The $124 billion pork-filled bill was scheduled for a vote late Wednesday. Whenever it’s passed, the bill they present Bush will be vetoed. Though it’s possible they’ll be able to override the veto, it’s not likely. So what we have left is pure politics.

“On Iraq, the American people want a new direction, and we are providing it,” said Sen. Patty Murray, the Washington Democrat and one of the lead congressional negotiators on the legislation.

She’s right — they do have a new direction. It’s called reverse. Or in military parlance, retreat. But what’s truly amazing is that the Democrats can’t understand just how bad they look right now.

Interesting Poll results the MSM isn't quick to publicize

Some interesting polling results in recent days. For example:

According to a recent USA Today/Gallup poll, 61% of Americans oppose “denying the funding needed to send any additional U.S. troops to Iraq,” and opposition is up from 58% in February. (3/23-25, 2007).

A Bloomberg poll reveals 61% of Americans believe withholding funding for the war is a bad idea, while only 28% believe it is a good idea (3/3-11, 2007).

A recent Public Opinion Strategies (POS) poll found that 56% of registered voters favor fully funding the war in Iraq, with more voters strongly favoring funding (40%) than totally opposing it (38%); (3/25-27, 2007).

POS found also that a majority of voters (54%) oppose the Democrats imposing a reduction in troops below the level military commanders requested (3/25-27, 2007).

A separate POS poll finds 57% of voters support staying in Iraq until the job is finished and “the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security for its people.” And 59% of voters say pulling out of Iraq immediately would do more to harm America’s reputation in the world than staying until order is restored (35%); (2/5-7, 2007).

A Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll show 69% of American voters trust military commanders more than members of Congress (18%) to decide when United States troops should leave Iraq. This includes 52% of Democrats, 69% of Independents and 88% of Republicans (3/27-28, 2007).

According to a recent Pew Research survey, only 17% of Americans want an immediate withdrawal of troops (4/18-22, 2007). That same poll found a plurality of adults (45%) believe a terrorist attack against the United States is more likely if we withdraw our troops from Iraq while the “country remains unstable”

Should a date for withdrawal be set, 70% of American believe it is likely that “insurgents will increase their attacks in Iraq” starting on that day. This is supported by 85% of Republicans, 71% of Independents and 60% of Democrats. (FOX News/Opinion Dynamics, 4/17-18, 2007).

An LA Times/Bloomberg polls reveals that 50% of Americans say setting a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq “hurts” the troops, while only 27% believe it “helps” the troops (4/5-9, 2007).

I’m sure our friend Glenn Greenwald over at Salon will be reporting all this to his readers any minute now.

Saudis Arrest 172 in Alleged Terror Plot

Apr 27, 5:30 PM (ET)

By ABDULLAH SHIHRI and DONNA ABU-NASR

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - Saudi Arabia announced Friday that an anti-terrorism sweep netted 172 Islamic extremists and stopped plans to mount air attacks on the kingdom's oil refineries, break militants out of jail and send suicide attackers to kill government officials.

An official said the plotters had completed preparations for their attacks, and all that remained to put the plot in motion "was to set the zero hour."

It was one of the biggest roundups since Saudi leaders began cracking down on religious extremists four years ago after militants attacked foreigners and others involved in the country's oil industry seeking to topple the monarchy for its alliance with the U.S.

But while the monthslong police operation provided a high-profile victory for the royal family, the large number of people arrested highlighted the extremism threat in the world's leading oil exporter.

The Interior Ministry said the plotters were organized into seven cells and planned to stage suicide attacks on "public figures, oil facilities, refineries ... and military zones," including some outside the kingdom. It did not identify any of the targets.

The militants also planned to storm Saudi prisons to free jailed militants, the ministry's statement said.

"They had reached an advance stage of readiness, and what remained only was to set the zero hour for their attacks," the ministry's spokesman, Brig. Mansour al-Turki, told The Associated Press in a phone call. "They had the personnel, the money, the arms. Almost all the elements for terror attacks were complete except for setting the zero hour for the attacks."

The Saudi statement said some of the detainees had been "sent to other countries to study flying in preparation for using them to carry out terrorist attacks inside the kingdom."

Al-Turki said he didn't know whether the militants who trained as pilots planned to fly suicide missions like those in the Sept. 11 attack on the United States or whether they intended to strike oil targets in some other way with the aircraft.

"I have no information on what they were planning to do with the airplanes, but I assume, based on the possible use of airplanes in attacks, that they planned to fly the airplanes into specific targets," he said.

The militants were detained in successive waves, with one group confessing and leading security officials to another group as well as caches of weapons, al-Turki said. He told the privately owned Al-Arabiya television channel that some of those arrested were not Saudis.

The Interior Ministry said police seized large quantities of weapons and explosives and more than $5.3 million in currency during the sweep. State TV showed video of one cache dug up in the desert that included explosives, assault rifles, handguns and ammunition wrapped in plastic.

U.S. officials praised the sweep as a blow to international terrorism.

"Certainly anytime the Saudis or anyone else takes action against those involved in terrorism it's a good thing," State Department spokesman Tom Casey said. "It's something that makes the world safer and makes America safer."

Saudi Arabia's long alliance with the United States angers Saudi extremists who object to Western ways, such al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

An austere strain of Islam known as Wahhabism is followed by the country's predominantly Sunni Muslim population, and militant groups have attracted recruits from Saudis with extremist leanings. Fifteen of the 19 airline hijackers in the Sept. 11 attack were from here.

Militants have struck at foreigners living in Saudi Arabia and the country's oil industry, which has more than 260 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, a quarter of the world's total. Bin Laden also has urged such attacks to hurt the flow of oil to the West.

In May 2004, attackers stormed the offices of a Houston-based oil company in the western Saudi oil hub of Yanbu. The fighting killed six Westerners, a Saudi and several militants.

Several weeks later, al-Qaida-linked gunmen attacked oil company compounds in Khobar on the eastern coast, killing killed 22 people, including 19 foreigners.

During the most recent attack, in February 2006, two explosives-laden vehicles tried to enter the Abqaiq oil complex, the world's largest oil processing facility, in eastern Saudi Arabia. But guards opened fire and the vehicles exploded without damaging the facility.

The ruling family has pursued an aggressive campaign against militants the past four years, and its security forces have managed to kill or capture most of those on its list of most-wanted al-Qaida loyalists in the country.

The Interior Ministry did not say whether any of the militants rounded up in the latest sweep were members of al-Qaida, referring to them only as a "deviant group" - Saudi Arabia's term for Islamic terrorist.

The kingdom earmarked one-sixth of its $12 billion defense budget last year for protecting oil facilities and is considering creation of special military units devoted to guarding the industry, Nawaf Obaid, a petroleum adviser with close ties to the government, has said.

Previous reports have said attack helicopters and F-15 jet fighters are in the air 24 hours a day over Saudi oil export terminals, while as many as 30,000 soldiers guard oil facilities.

7/7 ‘mastermind’ is seized in Iraq

The al-Qaeda leader who is thought to have devised the plan for the July 7 suicide bombings in London and an array of terrorist plots against Britain has been captured by the Americans.

Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran and was transferred this week to the “high-value detainee programme” at Guantanamo Bay.

Abd al-Hadi was taken into CIA custody last year, it emerged from US intelligence sources yesterday, in a move which suggests that he was interrogated for months in a “ghost prison” before being transferred to the internment camp in Cuba.

Abd al-Hadi, 45, was regarded as one of al-Qaeda’s most experienced, most intelligent and most ruthless commanders. Senior counter-terrorism sources told The Times that he was the man who, in 2003, identified Britain as the key battleground for exporting al-Qaeda’s holy war to Europe.

Abd al-Hadi recognised the potential for turning young Muslim radicals from Britain who wanted to become mujahidin in Afghanistan or Iraq into terrorists who could carry out attacks in their home country. He realised that their knowledge of Britain, possession of British passports and natural command of English made them ideal recruits. After al-Qaeda restructured its operations in Pakistan’s tribal areas he sought out young Britons for instruction at training camps. In late 2004 Abd al-Hadi met Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer, from Leeds, at a militant camp in Pakistan and, in the words of a senior investigator, “retasked them” to become suicide bombers.

They were sent back to Britain where they led the terrorist cell that carried out the 7/7 bombings, killing 52 Tube and bus passengers.

Pakistani intelligence sources said that Abd al-Hadi was also in contact with Rachid Rauf, a Birmingham man now in prison in Pakistan and alleged to be a key figure in last summer’s alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners in mid-flight.

Abd al-Hadi has also been linked to a number of other foiled al-Qaeda plots to carry out attacks in Britain. But the Security Service, which has previously sent officials to question detainees at Guantanamo Bay, may not have the opportunity to question him directly.

The Government’s recently adopted position in favour of closing Guantanamo Bay is likely to act as a bar on agents travelling there. British Intelligence would have to rely on relaying questions it would like asked by American interrogators.

Security sources said they assessed Abd al-Hadi as a key operational commander, high up the chain in the al-Qaeda structure who was behind many key plots in the UK.

He had a close link with another arrested al-Qaeda figure and, the sources said, would have “a wealth of information”. He is thought to have been in contact with Osama bin Laden before his capture and might be able to provide information about his leader’s whereabouts.

Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman, said that Abd al-Hadi had been classified as a “high-value detainee” at Guantanamo, and joined 14 others, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9/11 mastermind, as the most senior terror suspects at the Cuba prison.

Mr Whitman refused to say when or where he was captured, or by whom. “Abd al-Hadi was trying to return to his native country, Iraq, to manage al-Qaeda's affairs and possibly focus on operations outside Iraq against Western targets,” Mr Whitman said.

He added that he was a key al-Qaeda paramilitary leader in Afghanistan in the late 1990s, and between 2002 and 2004 led efforts to attack US forces in Afghanistan with terrorist units based in Pakistan.

In a lecture this week Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, commander of Sctoland Yard’s Counter-Terrorism Command, said that the central al-Qaeda leadership was behind a spate of terror plots against Britain.

He said: “We have seen how al-Qaeda has been able to survive a prolonged multinational assault on its structures, personnel and logistics. It has certainly retained its ability to deliver centrally directed attacks here in the UK. In case after case, the hand of core al-Qaeda can be clearly seen.”

Sources said last night that few figures had been more important at the centre of the revived al-Qaeda. Abd al-Hadi is credited with forming its alliance with the insurgency in Iraq.

US officials said he was associated with leaders of other extremist groups allied with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the Taleban.

Michael Scheuer, former head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit, told The Times that catching Abd al-Hadi was important but that it did not spell the end of al-Qaeda.

He said Abd al-Hadi had been an important figure in developing al-Qaeda’s strategy in the insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan and also helped to redirect its terrorist strategy in Europe.

Mr Scheuer, a senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation in Washington, said: “It is a blow for al-Qaeda, especially in Iraq, where it will have consequences.

“But al-Qaeda always plans for succession, and there will have been someone lined up to take his place. It is nonsense to think that al-Qaeda is dead.”
