Jawa knockin on the Online Jihadi Door one at a time and breakin them down

More Than One Way to Skin a Cat

There are a few ways to take down a terrorist website. There are the emails to this that and the other providers, law enforcement and our email a terrorist posts. After all that, if you are lucky, another terrorist outlet is offline and hopefully the operators and users are “neutralized”.

But there is another way, a much more efficient way. Kill or capture the operator.

In the case of one of the al-Qaeda's english version websites that seems to be what has occurred. It is now approaching 30 days since the site has been updated. That is highly unusual and I’d just like to say this very loudly one time.

F*ck Yeah!

Add to that a just a little spittle into the face of the terrorists.

The Arabic version of the website is still being updated and they have other outlets that run english translations and that depresses me. But this particular site has not been updated since just before the death of Abdul Latif al-Jubouri, The Islamic State of Iraq’s information minister. It stands to reason that he or a key translator was killed or captured in the same operation.

This happened once before. The site was dormant for several days last month and I made a comment that al-Qaeda appeared to be under pressure due to the fact that posting on the site was sparse. As if to rebuke me, the blogger/terrorist propagandist posted several new items. So I’ve been a bit gun-shy about a celebratory post.

There have been releases of information that were translated to english from the ISI since then (specifically on the captured US soldiers) which originated from the Arabic version of this site. There are various Jihadi supporters who translate items on various Jihadi forums and other websites, but these items have been less detailed and sophisticated than in the past. They repeat themes and propaganda set forth from the lead given by their so called “information ministry”.

None the less, I feel that we have achieved a victory here. The negative impact on the morale of the enemy should not be underestimated. Remember how you as Jawa readers and I as a contributor feel when a sustained DDOS occurs here. Now just imagine how the Jihadis feel when they check the site and it remains dormant.

Taking down the english version of the website does not stop the Arabic readers from getting their Jihadi fix, but I'll take what I can get. Remember, a lot of Jihadi propaganda is directed towards us to, "Strike fear into the hearts of the cross worshippers."

There many indications that al-Qaeda in Iraq is under steadily increasing pressure. Some, like this one, are quite subtle others are more obvious. I wanted to share this little crack in al-Qaeda facade with you.

Muslim YouTube Users Unite to Promote Religion

Posted by Matthew Sheffield on May 15, 2007 - 17:48.

If you've ever wondered why stories critical of Islam are often dropped off sites like YouTube and Digg, look no further than this email currently being circulated among YouTube users encouraging the formation of a private group to promote Islam through gaming YouTube's favorites system:

From: ...
Date: May 14, 2007, 11:18 AM
Subject: salam

to all muslim brothers and sisters please read

Our Islamic videos will not get full attention unless they come in the top ranked videos in youtube. For this purpose we all Muslims have to rate the videos to 5 stars and have to add them to our favorites. This will not be achieved if we Muslim Youtubers are scattered, i.e., one muslim rating one video and other muslim rating another. So we have to be highly organized. We will do a massive campaign of focusing to rate a single video collectively at once, so that it can show up on the top videos at least in the “Today’s top videos” list.

The Salafi Ideology goes beyond direct Al Qeada links and furthers the global Jihad agenda

New Jersey Terror Plot

Update by Jane: Yes, here I am, somewhat cranky I must say. Five of the suspects lived in Cherry Hill and all are Albanian, the Asbury Park Press reported. They had also considered attacking Fort Monmouth (which I pass on my way to the beach) before settling on Fort Dix. Apparently the feds were up on the group for some time:

The Star-Ledger of Newark reported on its Web site that the men had agreed to buy AK-47 assault rifles from an arms dealer who was secretly cooperating with the FBI. The Star-Ledger report cited a law enforcement source granted anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak about the arrest.
I have to agree with Rusty, the radical Islamists' ideology is what defines America's enemies, not the logistical substructure of al-Qaeda. Its an ideology of self-defined superiority and fatalism that terms all Shiites as rejectionists, engages in Takfir-ism against Muslims who hold less violent views, and views the US as the source of the modernism that corrupted Islam leading to the diminished power of the Ummah. Radical Salafism defines the US as the aggressor, Americans as sub-human, and death in combat against the US as noble and altruistic. There are no civilians and children deserve no mercy.

It is a war of ideas, viewpoints, definitions, and explanations. That these six planned to attack US soldiers on US soil, and kill anyone who got in their way, demonstrates the ability of hard core Salafi ideology to impact every American's life and invade every town, even Cherry Hill. The essential component of the terrorist threat is the ideology not the network.

NJ Terror Plot (UPDATED)

Breaking news! Six men were arrested last night for a terror plot to kill soldiers at Ft. Dix, New Jersey.

From NBC10.com:

Investigators said the men planned to use AK-47s to storm Fort Dix and open fire on soldiers and civilians stationed at the New Jersey base, noting that other military locations were scouted by the terrorist cell.

Three of the unnamed suspects are brothers who are all believed to be Islamic radicals, according to sources. Some of the six arrested men were also born in Albania and the former Yugoslavia, but have spent a significant amount of time living and training in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to authorities.

All six men were expected to face terror conspiracy charges Tuesday in federal court in Camden, N.J.

Living and training in New Jersey and Pennsylvania!

Update by Rusty: Newark Star Ledger, via Allahpundit:

The men - several of whom were in the same family - had videotaped their practice sessions in the Poconos, the source said. That videotape, in which they railed against America, led to their arrests.

The men made the mistake of bringing it to a retail store seeking to get a copy burned to a DVD, according to one of the sources. A store employee who later watched the tape called the FBI who began immediately investigating.

Dumb jihadis--the best kind!

The article also notes the six practiced by using paintball guns. Hmmmm, sounds familiar.

Allah seems to think that these guys aren't al Qaeda. But I think that misses the point of al Qaeda 3.0. Anyone can be "al Qaeda" now just by claiming to be, that's the nature of a non-hierarchical network.

Besides that, focusing on whether or not a particular terrorist cell is being directed by Ayman al-Zawahiri unintentionally misleads the public into thinking our only global enemy is "al Qaeda". It's not. It's the global jihad network.

Anyway, hopefully we'll get a comment of two from our own Jane, who blogs from New Jersey.

UPDATE II by Rusty: Confederate Yankee has a media roundup.

UPDATE III by Rusty: Jane is having computer problems this morning, but chimes in here.

UPDATE IV by Rusty: Michelle Malkin notes that a) 3 of the plotters are illegal alilens and b) that Fort Dix had been used extensively Ethnically Albanian refugees from Kosavo which is stunning.

Internet Haganah Top... Nineteen list of Arabic salafist/jihadist sites 22 April 2007

For this version of the list of top sites we have changed format and have dropped the non-Arabic sites. We are also ranking the sites according to a scoring system rather than according to whim or subjective assessment. The sites were scored according to the extent to which members of the global jihadist movement link to each site, or draw content from each site. In addition the sites were scored according to the degree to which they link to each other. The links analyzed were those provided by the jihadis themselves, and in particular the members of various online communities as opposed to the administrators of the various sites. Thus there are links between al-Hesbah and the Tajdeed forum despite the degree of animosity that exists between those two.

The "top nineteen" list is composed of a "top twelve" list, one site receiving honorable mention, and six sites being considered for listing based on how their scores compare to the "top twelve" the next time we get around to generating this report.

The Top Twelve:

1 muslm.net7 alnusra.net
2 alfirdaws.org 8 ikhwan.net
3 alhanein.com 9 ekhlaas.org
4 tajdeed.org.uk 10 al-faloja.com
5 al-boraq.com 11 farouqomar.net
6 alhesbah.org 12 al-ommh.net

al-Hesbah's score in particular was negatively effected as a consequence of their overly exclusive membership and access scheme, and perhaps there is some justice in that. Speaking of al-Hesbah, that site has previously targeted the competing Tajdeed forum for destruction, and are now organizing a campaign against the Ana al-Muslm forum. Some people have no interest in playing nice with the other kids. (The rank and file members of Ana al-Muslm outnumber those of Hesbah, and are likely more skilled as well - if this becomes a "shooting war" I'm placing my bet on muslm.net to come out on top.)

Honorable Mention: moqawmh.com

As the official site of the Gaza-based Popular Resistance Committees, moqawmh.com is disqualified from our list, but scored so high and was linked to by so many jihadis that we felt it deserved mention.

Candidates for Listing:

The following were recommended by the behavior of the jihadis themselves for addition to our list in the future:

• d-sunnah.net
• alokab.com
• alfetn.com/.net
• 3asfh.net
• almnbr.net
• elshouraa.ws

Seen Better Days:

The following sites are being dropped from our list due to clearly observable declines in activity that were reflected in poor scores using our new system.

• islamic-f.net
• aaa3.net
• abualbokhary.info
• altamkeen.net

Currently Deceased:

• mohajroon.com

In a workflow that involved Excel, Graphviz and finally OmniGraffle, we produced the following chart which represents the links between these various forums (make of this what you will):
